Croeso i Blwyddyn Un.
Welcome to Year 1.
The children have settled back well after the Christmas break. They are excited about our topic "All things Welsh and Wonderful" - we will read welsh folk tales, speak lots of Welsh and learn about living in Wales. During our visit to St Fagan's Museum we will find out about shopping at Gwalia Stores and about going to school a long time ago. We will celebrate St David's Day in our Eisteddfod with lots of competitions and fun.
This term every Monday we bring work home to practise our spelling. In a few weeks we will bring numeracy homework on a Friday. We will be working really hard this year and having lots of fun to be ready for Year 2
It is important to read every day for at least 15 minutes- read to a grown up but its good to read to yourself sometimes too. Remember, you can practice reading signs and information whenever you are out-and-about too. Practice your counting and writing whenever you can.
Our class assembly for Mums and Dads is on March 22nd.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday this year.
In Year 1 we are studying South Africa as part of the school's Far, Far Away theme.
We have already celebrated Heritage Day, a holiday in South Africa, where children came in in clothes representing their own heritage. We were also very lucky to have a visit from the African Drumming group too.
