The following videos are a good starting point for how we teach phonics and can give you support on how to support your child learning phonics at home:
The following are resources that we use within school:
Formation Chart These are the rhymes that we use to remind the children of the correct way to write their letters.
Phonics Sounds and Phrases - The rhymes used to remember the sounds of single letters and digraphs (pairs of letters that form to make a single sound), trigraphs (three letters, one sound) and split digraphs (two letter vowel sound separated by a consonant).
Green words - These are the words we practise in class, so children are confident initially blending sounds that they have been taught, whilst moving onto recognise familiar words through repetition.
Red Words The list of red words are words that need to be learnt as they cannot be sounded out.
High Frequency Words These are words that appear frequently when reading and need to be learnt by sight. They are a mixture of words that can and can't be blended.
Parents have asked for resources to support their children reading at home. Different children progress at different rates. If you are unsure of what to do with your child, please speak to your class teacher. Sharing books at bedtime and developing a love of literacy are important. Our goal is to create children who love reading and enjoy looking at new texts.
If you have any questions regarding any of the information below, please do contact us at the school.
